Spirit of Math to Represent Canada at 2017 WMO

Spirit of Math Schools will be Releasing the Genius at the 2017 World Mathematical Olympiad in Beijing, China on August 12. Last year, Spirit of Math students representing Canada enjoyed the experience of a lifetime as they traveled to Seoul, South Korea, to compete in the high-energy WMO international competition, where they learned valuable lessons in risk taking, working together as a team, and tackling challenges in the moment. In preparation for the 2017 competition, we will be undergoing a comprehensive selection process to determine who will represent Team Canada at the event. Two teams of Spirit of Math students will be formed with a total of six members per team. The selection process for Team Canada will consist of an average score from two preliminary rounds, with the top 10% invited to write the WMO National Canadian Finals at Spirit of Math head offices in Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Ottawa. Contest dates are as follows:
  • Preliminary round #1: April 28th at 5 p.m.
  • Preliminary round #2: May 5th at 5 p.m.
  • WMO National Canadian Finals: May 12th at 5 p.m.
Those representing Team Canada will be given additional training in preparation for Beijing. More details on this will follow throughout April. Not all campuses will be able to accommodate these contests, however we have several locations across the country that are available on a first-come, first-serve basis due to capacity constraints.
