Q: Can I put my child ahead a grade?

When new students are registered, they meet with the Principal or Director of the school for an interview. At this point, the correct starting grade is determined. (In almost all cases, students are placed in the same grade level as their day school.) After the first few weeks of classes, a student can be moved ahead or back a grade if it is determined by the parent, teacher, and principal that this is in the best interest of the child. (This very rarely happens above Grades 5.)

Q: Which is better, a large or small class size?

Since so much of the learning and motivation at Spirit of Math comes through group work and peer interaction, it is actually the larger classes that provide a more stimulating work environment for all. The energy and wealth of ideas that are generated in a class of 24 students provides the optimal Spirit of Math experience.

Q: Can I have additional materials?

Drill books and solution drill books for Grades 1 - 6 are available for sale from the Registrar. We do not sell any other material. Students who register after September will be provided with any materials that were handed out for the unit the class is currently working on. New students will not have enough time to try to catch up on previous units. Also, because our programs are designed to be implemented in a classroom setting, they are not as effective done individually.
